Nermal says over is best, much easier to shred and make a big pile on the floor. https://veuwer.com/i/2pzh.png

As long as I have paper I am happy. I don't think it is an issue at our house.

Judging by the few dislikes, it is apparent that people really don't want to even discuss this. Both the over and under arguments are only valid points if the people in your household put the toilet paper roll on the toilet paper roll holder. What about those bastards that just leave a roll sitting on top of the toilet or the floor or worse yet, on top of the brown cardboard from a completely depleted roll of toilet paper. At that point, over or under is useless as they most likely just wrap the toilet paper around their hand a few times like they're wrapping a pallet of boxes in cellophane.

The original patent makes the correct orientation pretty clear: 124-year-old patent solves the 'over versus under' toilet paper roll debate

Obviously having a patent as backup is powerful evidence to support your argument.

Over.
I've never seen an advertisement/ TV show/ Movie that depicts it under.

What are the arguments in favour of under? It doesn't make any sense at all: it's not practical, prettier or anything at all batter than over, which is clearly superior.

The only argument I have heard is that if you roll it under then cats can't unroll it as easily. This is 50% wrong (the cats just pull on the dangling bit), and 50% evidence that under-rollers are dumber than cats.
As a proud over-roller I use a door to prevent bathroom sabotage so that I can enjoy my butt-paper the way it was meant to be used.

The only argument that I have heard is for cat owners, who's cats like to mess with the roll. if it is under, they can't spin the entire roll onto the floor.

That is exactly what I was going to say. There are no benefits to having under, while over clearly has many benefits. This isn't even a discussion subject.

In my house, there is acutally a toiletpaperholder (is that what it's called?) that works better if it is under.
