If they understand the consequences of their actions, then they aren't sociopaths. Because sociopaths don't care about who they hurt, or about the harmful impacts of the psychological or emotional abuse they remorselessly inflict onto their victims.

Are you certain you're not using the term psychopath as a catch-all to shift all blame from sociopaths onto psychopaths? Because, in all seriousness, both are capable of horrible evil, no matter how you want classify them.
Are you saying that psychopaths have no moral qualms whatsoever, but sociopaths may or may not have them? Is that the distinction? If it is, how are you supposed to distinguish that? I'm not sure if you even can.
