Now that Voat is finally online, I'm looking around and so far I'm surprised. Because of the /r/fatpeoplehate exodus, I'll admit I was expecting a place full of hate. Seems more like Voat is dedicated to free speech, which is a much more logical way to do things. I don't see what was so difficult about simply avoiding /r/fatpeoplehate if you didn't like its message (it's certainly what I was doing) instead of the shady censorship they've been introducing. What if because I'm an atheist I were to demand the religious subs to be taken down, or vice-versa? You can't have one or the other, you need ALL groups to have a voice.

I'm still a little hesitant so I created a throwaway to browse around for a bit. That stigma of "Voat must be hateful" is still with me, hopefully I'll find enough to enjoy about this new place and can ignore the inevitable vitriol.

Everything I have read so far about Voat makes me happy. Glad the site is starting to work better. Is anyone else having an issue loading an avatar?

Just had a look, I can't load an avatar either, I get an error message along the lines of, "Please upload a .jpeg or .png", but the file I was trying to upload is a .jpeg. Might be part of the issues from the weekend's events?

Informative indeed. I heard about VOAT 2 days ago when reddit went more or less black, I somehow managed miss this site earlier but now that I have been looking around I see no reason to continue using reddit at all in the future. I'll be consentrating into NSFW stuff myself (something I have done years in reddit) and I'm delighted the change for a fresh start. Reddit has become annoying on that department as well, there seems to be lots of down-vote bots or people just downvoting everything what is posted into certain NSFW subreddits. Tons of trolling, etc. And like said by user/desert, if you disagree with the mainstream you're going to get downvoted into oblivion when it comes to it (tried to speak up with my not so mainstream thoughts at times in reddit but soon realized there was no point doing so).

I've only been here for 30minutes, but so far I've seen people link to user pages using the prefices "u/" and "@"
Your "user/" doesn't link, though that could be because it precedes a comma, but I don't know.

Seems that you're correct. thought it might be user/ since that was the url. But Going to use u/ and @ in the future if they work. Thanks
