Maybe I'm too old. We didn't have participation trophies or ribbons when I was a kid. Our parents and coaches taught us the point of games is to win them and if you don't win, try harder next time. Act like a bitch after a loss and you don't get pop or pizza or whatever that days version of a participation trophy that I'm ironically overlooking was. If you're not out there trying to win the game then you're essentially hanging out in a field with a bunch of other idiots learning nothing of the benefits of structure and the results of effective teamwork.

I'm sick of people complaining about participation trophies. They just make the losers feel worse. It's like getting a nickel as a tip. You'd rather get nothing than such an insulting thing.

Except of course people who're brought up in that world. It destroys their motivation - why try when you win regardless?

I was brought up in that world. They either made you feel nothing or feel worse.
