Whoa! Those things are wickedly fast. Very cool, but I could never muster the reflexes to fight with one.

Imagine having to fight these things off in a robot apocalypse...

  1. find sand dunes
  2. hide in them
  3. reinvent the deep fryer and donuts
  4. charge in bottlecaps just to fuck with people that think they would be a crap currency.

They are likely automated, not controlled. I honestly found it a bit boring.

I dont see that in the video. Many of the victories were won not by just rushing, but also tricks. One bot pulled a perfect matador, sidestepping its rushing opponent and letting them drive right off the ring. There does seem to be strategies involved that an AI would have trouble with, and if anyone can drive these things that well,it would be Japan or SoKo. Also near the end you can see a guy with a controller hanging around his neck.

The bright white border to the black ring makes me think you're right, Even autonomous bots from the 90s would use white on black or black on white to delineate areas they could go through.

The same robots but remote controlled would be cool

Tiny sumobots look fun.

Neat! Looks like these are automated from the obvious speed and not so obvious pattern they seem to follow.

The quick movements seem to be automated but there are also moments where you can tell it has human control, such as when they try to line each other up. Weird.

Yeah, I came here to say this. The super precise cornering and obvious "move to an edge so you can provoke a move from the opponent" tactic that one was using?

Only possible by computer reflexes.

That makes it especially interesting to me. Like the .NET terrarium.
