I love how people are trying to science this shit up so much more than they need. Solar panels? Why? Paint the effing thing black and use the sun. Design it something like two inner tubes stacked up, with it evaporating and leaving salt in the top and condensing in the bottom. You won't have to do a damn thing but remove the salt, water, and refill it.
Maybe a spammer, but shit, this is an annoyingly stupid topic full of idiots trying to over engineer simple things.

Given that membranes and solar panels fail over time, which require replacement parts to be manufactured, there must be a finite amount of water that can be purified with the machine or a cost per litre of water purified. It would be nice to see data showing cost effectiveness.
