This whole "safe space" thing is one of the most disingenuous and user insulting policies. It sets up your potential user as some kind of potential scumbag who is about to endanger other people. On the one hand it assumes you, the user are a potential threat. And on the other hand it assumes you are in an area full of immature users. Whenever I see "this is a safe space" written all over the website I just Nope the fuck outta there.
It's really just a "you're a dirty user and we can enforce whatever rules we want" policy. It's like a the customer is always wrong kind of policy, which makes total sense. As you will only see this policy on free, open to the public areas.

Wow.... Every sports fan knows that saying "fuck the ---" has zero meaning because everybody does it. Fuck the Cowboys. Tony Romo can suck my nuts

I wonder what Reddit will look like in a year? They are obviously cleaning house right now, but how many forced changes can they make before it transforms into something completely different?

I think the worst part about this is that they expressly state that they haven't made it public. I can live with a rule like that as long as it's a rule that everyone knows exists. Banning someone for a rule that's not even a rule is a major dick move.

As a philadelphian and a fan of the eagles i'm saddened by this, i looked forward to "fuck philly" posts because then it allowed me to post pics of michael irvin laying dead on the field at The Vet

Banter is not meant to be "safe", it's about cleverly shitting all over fanbases. It's supposed to make some people mad and they retaliate by firing back. When you plug up one or both sides because apparently equal platforms for banter make people feel "unwelcome", you take a lot of the fun out of sports discussion. You're taking the passion out. You're making it sterile and "safe" for everyone which is EXACTLY what's killing the NFL right now. There are definite lines that shouldn't be crossed in the name of passion (I'm looking at you, Raiders fanbase) but banter is far from that line. Pardon my use of "my/your team" but you're supposed to feel uncomfortable when your team is losing. You're supposed to get angry when your rival beats you and their fans laugh up a storm. You can't have the highs without the lows.
If you can't handle the banter, just watch the game alone and shut yourself out from discussion like all the other idiots who demand "safe spaces". You'd be doing everyone a favor.
