And let’s put some of that burgeoning wealth in nuclear, fission and fusion, so that it can take over from gas in the second half of this century. That is an engineerable, clean future.
The US could be doing a lot more for fusion. I don't know why we're not. ITER is never going to be economically viable. Driving it forward has no potential to see us gifting science to foreign nations - when it's done all the science that it can, the US will be 100x faster at applying that science, than any other country could be. There's not reason not to push harder for more ITER science sooner. For more similar projects.
We should be sailing that ship by an ash breeze.

Most have never seen the massive wind farms that blanket the Mid-West, Horizon Pollution!

They are kind of shocking to see.

It is, and it just keeps growing, unending miles of them. I have had talks with the power companies, they laugh, no matter how many of these behemoths are put down, it will never be enough.

Wind power is feasible only in specific places with very specific conditions. Solar is awesome but it does get dark on occasion around here, so you become reliant on energy storage techniques, some of which at scale are pretty bad ass, like pumped storage... but those, like wind, require specific geography. If we can get energy storage that scales well... Solar would be great since it can be put pretty much anywhere. This is where subsidies come in. Fossil fuels (including natural gas) are already "there", but we're dumping carbon into the atmosphere that has been locked away forever. There's not much economic incentive to figure out energy storage for "renewables" until fossil fuels cross a certain cost barrier. A shame, like welfare, we can't be a little more pointed in making sure the right people get ahold of research dollars and whatnot.
