The biggest mistake was selling Vista on machines with half a gig of memory. Actually, there was less than half a gig of memory, because all of these cheap machines used integrated graphics, and so some of the memory had to be assigned to the IGPU, and so couldn't be used as conventional system memory.

By the time the machine got to the desktop, the memory was 80% full. And so it ran like complete shit under even basic multi-tasking. Bargain basement machines which were shipped in 2007 with less than 1 GB of memory should have come with XP, not vista. But this would be pretending that the computer industry cares/cared at all about the end user.
