"We need more than diet and exercise pep talks to save people suffering from morbid obesity."

You're right... how about a gun and several bullets instead?

Medicine is failing obese people - Vox

'Most nuclear medicine stress test tables have weight limits around 300 pounds, and cardiac catheterization tables have similar limits. '

'So compromised respiratory function is not reserved just for the severely and morbidly obese but also the mildly overweight. '

'Yet health care providers are generally ill-equipped to deal with patients with obesity and their complex health needs. '

'Most of my overweight and obese patients have been battling their weight their whole lives. '

'Similarly, due to the increased load on the spine, increased body mass is responsible for the higher incidence of back disorders in patients with overweight and obesity. '

The infuriating part about this is that a better cure exists for obesity and obesity related complications than exists for a huge amount of involuntary illnesses. There is a long list of conditions for which there is no real answer, but obeasts have access to a FREE cure that will work as good as 100% of the time. But apparently we're not doing enough to help them? Fuck off.

Patients with obesity deserve better care. But how?

Two words: Therapeutic fasting. More words: for about a year or two. Even more words: water only.

With extremely rare exceptions, obesity is always, always a choice. The patient in the article chose to become 500 pounds, every single forkful of food that she didn't have to, but did, eat.

"Help Doctor, it hurts if I do this", needs to be followed by "then don't do it". Don't want to die of obesity at 40? Don't choose to become obese.

Obese people's bodies are failing obese people. Medicine is better than it has ever been. Yeah, fuck all this advancement, if it's not able to save some 800lb house cow from eating itself to death, why bother? Let's go back to dying from splinters and diarrhea.
