I don't like that he even let their bullshit affect his actions at all. It means they influence him. I liked the Trump that didn't give a fuck better than the one that cares suddenly what Killary, McStain, and the mockingbird media thinks.

Bombing that airstrip did several things, namely;

  1. Send a clear signal to the world that Trump's "red line" is not illusory like Obama's. He will take action if/when needed.

  2. He made the Syrian government his problem. Weeks prior to this, Russia and Syria were under intense and immense international/UN pressure to remove Assad as Syrian president. Nobody can touch him now except Trump and Putin.

  3. Trump was hosting Xi Jinping, president of China (which is a potential and liable geopolitical threat in the Asia-Pacific region) and by signing off on the missile attack while he hosts the president of America's biggest rival, he's making it clear that China has to tow the line or face consequences, namely in North Korea and the South China Sea islands

  4. Allows the current situation to escalate a little to the point where the two sides (Russia and the US) can sit down and talk without the usual talking heads bringing up the "Russian collusion" bullshit.

Honestly, Tillerson getting a cold welcome in Russia is not at all unexpected. It's all a show. Smoke and mirrors. There are backchannel talks ongoing that the public does not know about and plenty of information is being passed between these parties, possibly talks of Putin meeting with Trump in the future to "normalize" relations.

I am aware of those bullet points, though I'm glad you posted them (for others that may follow this thread). And I don't entirely disagree. But I don't like the idea of Trump catering to the press at all. I liked the Trump that didn't give a flying fuck what the lying media said. I never believed the "Russia" narrative. Not even slightly. The fact that Trump was confrontational about that was great in red-pilling people. All this "back channel" stuff you are talking about is wack, IMO. If citizens can't handle the truth, they should grow the fuck up. I like transparency. The idea that we are supposed to enjoy secrecy is a complete joke on us. That's what I'm pissed about.
