Mothers of newborns in Tamworth, Staffordshire, can no longer access a specialist service that offers advice at home about how to look after their baby from a support group of women who had given birth years before

Apparently we no longer have such a thing as grandmothers. The heroic efforts of bureaucrats can correct this sad loss, if only those vile, heartless taxpayers would stop trying to keep so much of their earnings.

Is the Internet not sufficient for this? Or the library? Or friends? Do we really require a "specialist service" for this?

It just seems to me that there are a multitude of other options that one could pursue. Someone could even set up a group that wasn't run by the government that does the same thing, unless these people are being paid.

I just don't see a compelling reason why the government needs to run this, or why it needs to be done at home. As soon as you get rid of the at home requirement there are quite a few better and cheaper alternatives.

Does everyone have a grandmother?

Indeed they do; absent unusual family arrangements, they even have two. Alas, they will pass on with time, but it is usual for a newborn to have at least one grandmother living. Perhaps they die young in Tamworth.

Does everyone have a competent grandmother!?

Does every difficulty in life require the State's dubious remedies?

Spot on.

I wonder at some of these services. If you're r a decent human people will throw you a baby shower, you'll have family to help you.

No! You don't need friends or family, let the state be that for you.
