59 tomahawks, at an airfield? That doesn't add up at all.

Probably a show of force. He was showing someone, probably the Chinese president, that the US can waste 59 missiles at will.

So that we can in turn borrow the 500k each from them later this year?

There is no way Trump could believe Dr Assad launched a chemical attack, only to deliver an obsurd, dare I say non sensical amount of firepower to a vacated airfield? 59?!? The "little" (1000lb explosive) variant of that missile would disable an airfield alone if you hit the runway in the middle. Any word on Putin's reaction? I have not seen anything as of yet
Edit, oh...Yea Putin's pissed.

Assad had nothing to gain by using gas. Classic false flag to justify US involvement in middle east regime change..Israel and Goldman Sachs benefit.. I voted Trump and have given him the benefit of the doubt. I feel duped and betrayed. There is nothing he can do to restore my trust.

Trump: Why I Launched a Missile Strike on Syria - NBC News
'In graphic terms, Trump put the blame for the deadly chemical attack on Tuesday squarely on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. '
'Trump also said he took the action because of a "vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons."'
'Despite previous agreements, Tillerson said, Syria has not given up its chemical weapons stockpile. '
'"Clearly, Russia has failed in its responsibility to deliver on that commitment" to supervise the surrender of those chemical weapons, the secretary of state said. '
'Trump's action do not change U.S. "policy or posture on Syria in any way," Tillerson said, urging reporters not to see a change in policy based on Thursday night's strike. '

Be aware of an autocrat wrapped in the flag and spouting prayers to justify war. We have been down that path before. Really what was the US national interest in doing this? If he could send in military operators to abduct or assinatate Assad then OK. Why not blast Assad's house? But shooting expensive ordinance at an empty air field is too much like Wag The Dog.
