Fuck microsoft. The company's death will be celebrated by thousands and almost no one will care when they fade away.

Yesterday I was thinking about a national brand of computer hardware, specialized but not limited to laptops

100% linux compliant, state owned and independant in its decision process, decisions driven by the national linux community, components built and assembled in the country

Not to necessarily produce state oft he art machines, but good machines, like, just fine, in the 200/500 bucks range

Like an x205ta but without proprietary driver issues for instance

I mean, I am already paranoid about low level backdoors on hardware, but to literally make it State produced would make me batty.

What would be trully worse ?

Private companies products you have no right to know what's inside, companies covertly working hand in hand with spook agencies to plant hardware backdoors, or, a not for profit public company where all the products plans/blueprint must be mandatory made public by law, which workers are from civilian society like universities for instance ?

Maximization of profit not being the priority, it doesn't have to be on a benevolant basis, workers are paid, but benevolant/educational work isn't excluded

Pretty much like linux software, but this time it's hardware

After all, linux is born as a hobby out of an university

You might look at https://puri.sm/. Tad pricey - but very security focused.

nice

Didn't know it existed

Still, components are mostly made in china, but granted, it's better than nothing at all for people that don't want to "hand everything to china"

...

That said, my initial train of thoughts wasn't strictly limited to the US, it's rather in a broader nationalistic oriented perspective

I like this one

state owned

Why on earth would you want that? No way a national quango would make computers that cheap without needing massive subsidies.

They can't make computer cheap to begin with without relying on foreign factories, for obvious reasons

Well no shit, why do you guys think MS is having such a heavy push to "port" their products to Linux? If they cant have their own OS, they'll pollute the other ones, and the retards using LinuxLite(Ubuntu) wont know the difference. MS has what, 1 money maker left? Office perhaps?

There's something in LinuxLite that MS has their hands in?

VS Code comes to mind, and .Net core. Not that they are very highly used, but the desperation is definitely kicking in

Intellectual property was a fucking huge mistake.

Microsoft has to survive somehow. The latest news is that recently Android surpassed Windows as the most used OS in the web. Linux is slowly but steadily defeating them. So, they are now extorting money from Linux based companies. I will be there to laugh at your dishonest ass when you bite the dust, Microsoft.
