Ideally, if/when 3D printed hardware is an option at home, I can see it taking off. At least Intel/qualcomm/etc want to compete, and still have access to different markets. If my country put a stamp on any piece of hardware (or software for that matter), I know I would immediately turn to anything else, because at least then I can pretend local authorities need to jump through one or two hoops to get the data. Though with just how popular raspberry pis are, I completely forgot what is happening with the one laptop program, http://one.laptop.org/.

But yeah, I sort of long running program that has different universities opting in, and mirroring the plans/blueprints would be pretty neat. I just wish mobile phones, and tablets weren't the current push for locked ecosystems, and hardware.
