"Our optimism should be tempered with the fact that earlier studies have also had high hopes. The discovery of a new hormone in 2015, dubbed betatrophin, also appeared to promote beta-islet cell expansion. Unfortunately this work was later found to be statistically invalid and thus retracted[2]."

Oh fuck you. Multiple studies have shown starvation diets end diabetes in a few weeks. The only people comparing a change in behavior to the failure of an artificial drug are the fatties sucking down their ice cream shakes.

Yes. But let's be real. Fasting help!

Not going to lie - know a person who has diabetes. Overweight. In-law. He drinks sodas, has them hidden from him. Has chocolate hidden from him. They occasionally try to give "a kid" orange juice. Only problem is. A two year old doesn't need 30+ grams of sugar from fake orange juice. You see? Average adult woman needs only 26g's or so a day (pushing it with that stat) of "100% natural" sugar. Sugar you hunt and gather from seasonal growth. Maybe a few weeks a year before birds eat them. So now. Back to the overweight dude. I am sure if he fasted And stoped consuming his unhealthy diet - he would be better off.

The rest is consumeristic disinformation.

yep, its a dynamic system, and you can only push it so far. What you are saying is just the flip side of mediating expectations. I totally agree that if 'periodic fasting' might help, then 'periodic binge sugar' might just be a disaster.

Oh. For a second there I thought it said "periodic fisting".

Or is not putting sugary food and drinks in the body responsible this? I bet if I forego fasting I can still not contract type 1 diabetes, if i just didn't with the sugary god damn snack food!

Type I diabetes is caused by insufficient insulin being produced.

The research also tested the drug rapamycin (know in human medicine as sirolimus) and another drug that is a PKA inhibitor, which were found to improve things even more. To make things even more confusing, rapamycin is well-know for causing hyperglycemia, which might contribute to beta cell changes even more.

Is this the same as intermittent fasting?
