Yes, but it's very volatile and it's currently under political attack to sabotage it's growth by artificially limiting its payment network capacity and therefore the future valuation is wildly unknown. I was strongly pro-Bitcoin until the bandwidth sabotage became popular recently.

If enough people start using any distributed technology to store wealth, it will be made illegal. The oligarchs don't want people being able to escape the bank cartel.

This is most likely the case. This, and the fact that the majority of the Bitcoin wealth is held by a small minority of people who did the first mining. The majority of people don't own any large percentages of the total
