It's like when back in elementary school your parents and teachers would tell you to just ignore the class bully and try to be nice to him anyway... this would only make things way worse on yourself. It's the same with radical islamic terrorism; ignoring the problem and trying to sugarcoat it has got us where we are now. There comes a time to stand up for ourselves.

Technically I think the angle is more, "let's not be assholes to the muslims that aren't trying to kill us." While there are obviously a handful of home-grown extremists inspired by the foreign movement, some of whom carry out some highly-visible acts of terror, the vast majority of extremists are overseas. Anyone promoting sharia law can go fuck themselves - but I don't have any beef with say, Mohammad Ali, or that sweetheart of a large black woman I work with (who BTW voted for Trump).
