That he is lucky to be alive. She poured a lot of acid on him, when in most cases, a small amount would kill someone.

Given the condition he's in and the suffering ahead for him, lucky is the last word I'd use.

Lots of people don't know that corrosive compounds don't just dissolve everything immediately. Acids, bases, even peroxide-boosted systems like Piranha solution works over a time frame of minutes to hours, not seconds.
They see this shit in movies and think a drop of acid will eat through the floorboards, kek.
On the other hand, it will fuck you right up. If you ever handled the fuming muriatic acid for pools, you'll know it's nasty stuff. Acids especially, as they basically digest the proteins in your cells, release heat, then work even faster when heated.

Leicester girlfriend jailed for attempted acid attack | Daily Mail Online
'Leong and her former boyfriend, Mark Cummings, were both accused of attempted murder with Mr Cummings cleared by the jury at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday. '
'A woman who attempted to kill her partner by pouring sulphuric acid on him as he slept has been jailed for life. '
'Mr Rotariu, 31, and Leong were in a relationship at the time of the attack, when she poured acid at 96% concentration onto the victim for six seconds. ', "The court heard Mr Cummings, 46, had ordered the acid online - but that the attack was 'driven and orchestrated' by Leong who was found guilty of attempted murder and will serve at least 17 years.", "She said: 'In order to avoid being blamed for the attack, Leong attempted to incriminate Mark Cummings, who wanted more than anything to resume their relationship. 'However, our case was that she was the driving force behind the attack and the jury decided that Mark Cummings was acting under her controlling influence, so was not guilty of attempted murder. '"

Jailed for at least 17 years you mean.

Which is legally life.

Call a spade a spade. Being in jail for 17 years is not being in jail for life. No matter what the law says. It's just one more instance of Newspeak.
