The war on drugs definitely has created hostile regions within Mexico and people have a valid reason to want to flee that environment.
But the best way to fix this problem is not to grant asylum, but to end the bullshit war on drugs that's enabling these criminal enterprises.

Legalizing marijuana is like the best way to help Mexico out and let them build up their economies for once.

The US has granted political asylum to German homeschoolers because homeschooling is illegal in Germany. If we can have asylum for that, we can have asylum to someone who will likely be tortured and slaughtered by drug cartels that make ISIS's methods look like a kindergarten party.

What are they going through the legal process for? Just march in there and demand rights and privies like the rest of the world expects the US to provide them!

The drug cartels control much of Mexico. In most areas they control they also control politicians and law enforcement as well because any politicians or law that opposes them are violently murdered. The cartels are extremely violent. They set entire families on fire, cut of people's heads and put them on poles as warnings, skin people alive and then hang their and their family's corpses from racks in public, grind people's skin off with industrial sanders, etc.
A lot of Mexicans have 100% legitimate cause for refugee asylum.
Yeah, the claims aren't necessarily bogus. Lots of people have mentioned the cartels, but the politicians are corrupt also. It's one of the better arguments for the wall: https://youtu.be/UOOBlcOIcLs
“I want to go to Canada,” said one man who was deported from the U.S. for drug possession and working illegally without immigration status.
“For those without documents, I think (the United States) is over. Now it’s Canada’s turn,” said the criminal.
That last part is what we should be promoting. these illegals are CRIMNALS, by being here illegally.

At least this particular group is going for "documented" status - not illegal.
I don't worry much about documented immigrants - we've millions of those already, and another million or two isn't going to change anything here. They will find the market for immigrants is already flooded. Documented immigrants at least find some kind of support to get started.
It's the illegal immigrants - "undocumented" that are the real problem. They are unable to find legitimate employment, so are unable to establish stable roots - many, if not most, turn to criminal activity in order to survive - and that leads to much bigger problems down the road. You need shelter to live in Canada - or the weather will kill you.
What a fucking mess.
