In Canada, usually the argument is "don't take our guns, we aren't going to hurt anyone". In the US, usually the argument is "don't take our guns, we might have to hurt someone".
I'm more inclined to agree with the former than the latter.
Bernier is, IMO, simply playing to that portion of the Conservative base that wants American style gun laws - IMO we don't need them or the issues they bring.
