What to do now?
I called in 'sick' today in protest and to get myself in the right headspace, but now I'm trying to figure out what to do.
Off to a great start there. Another good idea would be to ask for advice from the nexus of hardcore welfare recipients.

A good way to advance your career is to call in sick early and often.

They may be overqualified for what they're doing. They may be drastically more qualified than others in their old position and the new one they were moved into. These things may be true.
But they're too immature for the adult world. Called in sick, why? To protest? They "thought about" talking to the CFO, but that wasn't one of the first things they did. They're too immature. They're looking for a new job instead of having a 5 minute conversation with the CFO and controller. But they aren't having that conversation because the world revolves around them. The CFO is supposed to know what's happening to them because the world revolves around them. Every conversation that occurred before the controller was hired, the controller is supposed to know, because the world revolves around them.
They're just too immature.
