Whether Snoop's career is failing or not is irrelevant. The only relevance is whether it is an insult that will piss Snoop off. Trump believed it was so it was the one he used. The same can be said about jail time except there the audience is less Snoop and more Trump fans who will eat up the tough rhetoric knowing all the while that it is just that and nothing more.

Trump has a very different style than we are used to with public figures. However, it is definitely well within the norms for certain people who enjoy success through a combination of unhinging their adversaries (making them less successful than they could be if calm) and always going to 11 up front (which gives opponents an incorrect metric of what the negotiation is actually about). Businessmen who do this can be abrasive and not fun to do deal with, but they are often highly successful.

Trump adds to this by often talking in a pastiche which cannot be taken literally. Indeed, he often says things that are contradictory and you have to stand back a bit to see the commonality and guess what his actual point is. It is the language equivalent to impressionistic painting.

I find his style fascinating to watch in its current political context.

Snoop Dogg's a cornball and has been for a long time.
