How is it that two people observe the same event, yet reach disparate conculsions about its meaning? Ideology is akin to a constellation of cognitive biases, yet it might also help us to make sense of the world in certain situations.
While nobody is free from various biases, ideology is simultaneously totalitarian and transparent: totalitarian, to the extent that one's identity and perception are bound to ideology, and transparent, because one knows nothing other than the totalizing ideology, and thus its influence occurs beneath the threshold of self-perception.
