Sorry. I'm not taking time off my existing project just to make a rushed ugly piece of crap in a short time period.

Fuck gamejams. I understand the appeal, but fuck them. We can do better than that shit with FLOSS. Why not have a 1 to 6 month long gamejam where the general theme / requirement is announced ahead of time so people might find it interesting and sign up rather than some nebulous "muh secret requirement" crap that makes people drop out when they see how lame it is?

People could then propose game designs to complete in the 1-6 month time frame given the skillset of the devs who signed up. Then they pitch game ideas and everyone votes on which design should be developed. Then the game is broken down into its various mechanics and features and assigned to devs according to skills. The devs then create the required code / assets for the game in 1-6 months of leisurely coding in their spare time -- because unlike this neckbeard start trek "geek", some of us have very limited time to do gamedev on the side.

Those who can spend more time could polish up the game more in the allotted window, maybe help other devs who are having issues with a feature or asset. A public issue tracker would get used. After the 1-6 month period the code could released FLOSS compatible license and commits accepted by anyone (not just the initial participants) to improve the game for months, years, or ever, becoming a new addition to the Linux Gaming community, a single game built by the community that people will actually want to play and continue work on rather than a collection of sad shallow 1-off pieces of unpolished crap made by a few (1) devs each who are independently competing to see who survives the Thunderdome.

Sorry, I'm just burned out on "gamejams" as a concept altogether. A timesink to show off skill under pressure and time constraints, no thanks I have better shit to do. Let me know if you have a good idea for a collaborative project though, where we can multiply our skills rather than divide them and be conquered by our greatest enemy: Time.
