"You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass."

This quote is often misattributed to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, but that does not make the context of it any less valid.

u know whats funny - americans supposedly have guns so they can fight the government, right? have u ever seen a successful fight against the US government by any armed group? NO. this is another one of those american bullshittisms.

also, there would be no invasion in a modern war, just lots of ICBMS, some of which are currently chilling on a submarine stationed like 50km off of american shore. can you defend against an ICBM with a gun? no.

US is clearly the dangerous crazy threat to the world, everyone knows it but yet the insanity continues

You fire missiles at our mainland we fire them at yours, MAD doesn't end well for either party involved only for the third that steps in after. You could try a sneak attack on our navy, worked for Japan. We have more land then most other countries to try and cover via remote attacks, so it technically will cost us less to bomb all of the other country then them to bomb all of us.

The guns thing isn't so much an invasion thing as an after the fact issue. Armies fight armies but securing your backside is an important part of war as well and a few hundred guns and ammo coming from behind your lines creates an interesting situation splitting your attention. No I don't expect the armed civilians to win a war, but they would create some significant slowdown or distraction though unpredictable enough to not be relied on.

Outside of the Civil war we have not had a significant amount of people try to fight back against the government. most every armed standoff could have been sorted via a simple wait them out (they will starve in a few months) and let them kill the hostages solution, hell if they keep them it is just more mouths for them to feed. Alternatively ask an artillery unit how long it would have taken them to eliminate most of those fights if the hostages were to be acceptable losses.
