Worst part about this is the Chinese are the biggest producers of stainless today partially because of the heightened demand and the quality has gone down enormously. It's not unusual that I have to go back on jobs because of rust spots showing up after a year or 2 of exposure to the elements. That didn't use to happen unless finishing tools were contaminated.
They've been known to lie/cheat on Mill Specs

lie/cheat
With our insane regulations I wouldn't blame them. Same with Volkswagen.

I thought brass was a natural disinfectant and most door nobs were brass in the early 1900's.
[–] DiscontentedMajority 1 point 22 points 23 points (+23|-1) ago (edited ago)
Correct, because brass is part copper.
[–] theMETA 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
Yup. Brass is a copper-tin or copper-zinc alloy, whereas bronze is usually a copper-aluminium alloy.
The problem with this comment thread is that most brass door knobs are coated in a thin, "invisible" plastic to prevent it from oxidizing. This keeps the brass bright and golden, instead of turning brown and "crusty."
This plastic barrier prevents any antibacterial properties the copper could possibly have. For this reason, brass has been primarily used for its golden color, and not it's antibacterial properties.

Yeah, but a lot of what voat teaches is so massively wrong as well that the few times it is right shouldn't be lauded. A broken clock is right twice a day. About the same for voat. Seriously considering leaving due to the awful signal to noise these days since the influx of cretins from reddit who were the reason I left that. The problem here is the same as everywhere else where the concept of voting is misused to suppress things people don't like regardless of how true they may be so a lot of crap that people like gets prominence despite the bad science.

They are actually. It takes a while to roll out new devices, furnishings etc. but it's definitely coming.

It an ELI5 is possible I'd appreciate it :)

So if copper is so great, you may be wondering, why don’t hospitals have more copper fittings and fixtures?
I don't think the author of the article actually went into any Hospitals in California. If they had, they would see that almost EVERY building has been plumbed with copper piping over the past 20 years. Has there been any effect here in California? I don't think so. If it had, there would be an anomaly so huge that it would be noted.

Thank you for your clarification
That would be the industry then. The entire metal industry. Copper is a lot more expensive, 4x more than stainless and if you were complaining about prices of health care now, after copper no one would be able to afford it. Stainless is disinfected daily, that is much more cost effective than making copper hand rails, bed rails and all other.

Because healing people doesn't make money.
[–] doginventer [S] 1 point 14 points 15 points (+15|-1) ago
Yes, I suspect this is the strongest factor. As someone mentions in the comments: there's no patent on copper, hand gel though....
[–] smokratez 2 points 10 points 12 points (+12|-2) ago
You mean the hand gel that gets rid of the good germs on your hands that protect you from getting sick? Lol.

I wouldn't be surprised. Same reason diabetics are told to continually raise their blood sugars and then use drugs to bring them back under control: $$$. Docs can't be sued if a diabetic has issues from high blood sugars, only low blood sugars. So they keep them high and if your foot falls off or you go blind oh well.

You would be shocked at how many nurses (especially LPN) do not properly adhere to patient precautions, that's one reason C-diff is rampant in many hospitals.
[–] smokratez 0 points 3 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago
Standards in hospitals have been dropping for decades.
