Because cleaning copper is a Giant pain in the ass and costly. France also banned aluminum cooking pans because they thought it cause Alzheimers, which is doesn't

1.) Takes a long time to kill

2.) Copper still has worth and most places stripped it out at one time or another for trade under the guise of updating.

Interesting article. Thanks for posting. I knew about silver, but not copper. Now that superbugs are threatening to return us to the pre-antibiotic era, maybe a return to the old techniques is needed.
