Disability benefits should be for 'really disabled' not people with anxiety (Tory MP) - NeoGAF

'"These tweaks are actually about rolling back some bizarre decisions by tribunals that now mean benefits are being given to people who are taking pills at home, who suffer from anxiety," he said. this is why he's annoyed ultimately the goal of the government on welfare has been to try and create an artificial wedge between the "underserving poor" and "the deserving poor" to create the impression that their cuts are only falling on those who didn't deserve the money anyway, not ordinary people just doing the right thing. instead of making politically difficult moves, they've targeted the most vulnerable people who are least able to fight back. now the courts are actually challenging this wedge by overturning unfair decisions, instead of accepting that mistakes are made and trying to deal with that, he's doubling down on demonizing people with mental illness by pretending they are just lazy people who could overcome a little anxiety if they wanted to, in order to justify ideologically motivated cuts. it is shameful and cowardice. Go have a riot over this and watch it grow even more.

With 17 years of chronic incurable disease fucking up nerves and muscles to the point where I sometimes have to call in sick every workday of a month I say, if the disability can be treated reliably then they should not get disability pay. It only makes sense to try to fix the problem instead of brushing it under the mat and giving taxpayers another babysitting gig.

From the perspective I have in Sweden that is. Where people on the last month of terminal cancer and no living relatives get denied disability and support, but educated and healthy inside and out brats get the fast lane to early retirement because they haven't found any work, and the people cheating the system from money have no problem cheating millions out of them and out of the country.

If you can treat it, beat it.

The difference is that people have been coping with mental illness for all of human history, and only in the last few hundred years have they been able to rob other taxpayers to fund their "muh crippling disability" lifestyles.

Someone who is physically disabled like a paraplegic is one thing, though I would hope even that person could find work doing text-to-speech writing (for example). And some mental illnesses are legit excuses for someone not to be told "get over it and get to work." But we are subsidizing otherwise healthy people to behave like they're helpless, and it's not ultimately good for anyone: not the taxpayer, and not the gibs collector, and not society at large.

like...soldiers with PTSD?

Did this gaffot equate a soldier suffering from ptsd with a fag that gets his panties in a twist over his dusty xbox one controller?

You've got a legitimate disorder that can be backed up with medical documentation? No problem.

Gaming the system to get free checks so you can blow it all on games and other frivolous crap? Cut the cord. I'm sure a number of the people crying about this are secretly fuming over getting their free meal tickets revoked.

But even if you have a legit disorder, collecting gibs just encourages you not to learn to cope with that disorder and lead the best life you can. That's what welfare does to people who could work, after all.

There is no way to deal with the excesses of the welfare state except to get rid of it entirely. The "good" news is that's going to happen eventually no matter how much tax money any government takes in. Because "entitlement" programs only grow, they never shrink.
