It happens to me when I'm super-stressed and I have anxiety. I've always had digestive issues, though.
I thought it was normal to only go maybe once a week when I was a child and would have horrible gas pains because of it. That's my first sign, when gas pain is so bad, nothing but lying down will help. Usually I'm too busy at this point to realize I hadn't gone in a while.
Then, when I'm really stressed, I won't get gas pain, just random shart. Always happens at home, thank god, and only about once a decade.
I think my problem is I have anxiety because of shitty gut bacteria, and then I'll have digestive problems. I'm on meds now to stave off panic attacks, and I'm working on de-stressing and making my diet a lot healthier so I can stop taking meds every day. Since the medicine regulates serotonin and norepinphrine, it probably helps me have regular poops.
I'm a 33 year-old female at a healthy weight and in fairly good shape, so my guess is diet controls not only poop, but mood.
Sorry for all the info HPOP. I enjoy talking about poop.

Best guess? Missing the last exit for the nearest bathroom on a road trip lasting more than three hours. I dunno, that's the last time I shit myself. I wasn't driving, we'd stopped at Burger King drive through for lunch, and even though I told the driver no less than ten times I needed a bathroom ASAP, we still missed the exit and I still lost that gamble.
