I work in the healthcare field and holy shit is this true.
When someone with an Arab accent calls, I just ask them for the birth date before the name, since otherwise I'll have to search through 100+ "Muhammed" names.

Naming storms is really pointless. It gives no meaningful info, just "not that one, this one".
Tell me when and where it happened, how strong it was, and so on. I can do something with that.

By that logic, naming anything is pointless. Names aren't supposed to give meaningful info, they're anchors for information.

Tropical storm "1973, barbados, then florida, then mobile bay, then mississippi, really really strong" is a bit of a mouthful.
