I really hope the "x" chips aren't binned. That would take all the fun of overclocking out of it for me if they just do it themselves with XFR. Either the R5 1500 or R7 1700 are looking really good to me right now. Benchmarks can't come soon enough, only 13 more days.

I really was thinking of going to Zen this year, but I think I will just go ahead and upgrade my current CPU to an i7-4790K and wait for a year or two to do a full refresh. I can't see anything in this release beating that for the same money. Now, my living room system is definitely a possibility to go Zen. Right now it runs an Athlon IIx3 unlocked to 4 cores and while it does fine for what my wife usually plays on it I could future proof her a lot with the upgrade to that 1400x.

I'm in a fairly similar situation as you, my 4690k is actually being a bottleneck in some situations, but I think I'm going to just go zen because I've been wanting a good AMD cpu for a while now and if they are really that good, I want that for my main rig. I'm probably going to move my current system out to the living room to replace the aging Q6600 system.

Thing is, I am not sure they are going to be that good compared to the higher end 1150 Intel processors. I may do some waiting (my 4590 is not bad off yet) but I am really not too encouraged yet. If I was still on one of the older Intel platforms or any AMD I would be a lot more excited but I know a Zen plus MB and memory that competes with that $350 i7 upgrade is going to cost a lot more.

Yeah I had planned to do a new build this year but I bought a few parts for the current system instead after some unexpected costs.

I might do one more i7 build. But I've only been using AMD CPUs for the last three years already. I love using the APUs in budget builds for people.

I don't know, the whole line up is so lowly priced that it's a constant battle of "just a little more and I get more cores". For $30 more you get 6 cores, and adjusting the multiplier to reach the 1400x clocks should be possible on the majority of systems without adjusting any voltages.

I imagine if I grab a 1700x for $382 and can hit mid 4ghz range overclocking, I'm not going to need a new CPU for a really long time, years. I don't see that longevity coming out of a 4core CPU.
