It's worse than that. You have to stay all 8 hours, even if you finish early because 1. they don't want you leaving early and 2. you won't get paid. Whereas at home, you comfortably and stress-freely complete the work at the highest level and can use your time as you please. The office is just horrendous.

I usually work remotely on Thursdays and get much more done than when I am in the office. I make a point of having quantifiably more to show for my workday when I'm out of the office to justify it to the pointy haired boss if he ever decides to get cunty about it.

In a video sent to to her troops last week – also covered by El Reg – IBM's marketing chief Michelle Peluso explained some of the thinking. She said it was "time for us to start bringing our teams together, more shoulder to shoulder". Peluso confirmed she was aware that turning their lives upside down will be "hard" for teleworkers at IBM, but she was convinced IBM had reached a "place where we're excited about the path forward". Affected staff we spoke to don't share that excitement.
Why is it always female execs doing stupid shit like this? This is code for: "I need a good reason to justify why I have a job and I'm getting paid ridiculous amounts of money, so let me inconvenience thousands of other people and I'l claim it's so that we can "rub shoulders" and "be a stronger team".
So fucking ridiculous.

Isn't this the same shit that the charlatan token vagina running Yahoo! did, shortly before it burned to the ground? Whelp, I know which stocks I'm short-selling this quarter.

Female executives at large companies always seem super interested in launching projects that have absolutely nothing to do with directly helping the business or increasing profits. It's always about some diversity/team building/feel good public relations campaign horseshit. Maybe because these women really are just token vaginas and have no mind for business, so they focus on just trying to gain attention for the irrelevant causes they invented out of thin air.

It's a stealth layoff. Any telecommuters who are not pushovers will find a different job. The ones that remain are the kind of pushover staffers that will be happy to do their 9-5, be underpaid and will stay forever as long as they can do some light redditing on the job, and as long as there isn't too much stress or demands on their time to keep them from whatever bullshit trivial hobbies they engage in after work.

Telecommuting works great for getting work done. However women are usually butthurt about it because it limits their ability to gossip and spy on each other.

I can assure you they gossip with social media. Skype for business sometimes feels like Facebook.

I worked for a large telecommunications corporation (corp IT) and when the idea of working from home came up, the bosses hated it because they wanted to wk around and see to it that everyone was diligently working in their office. Never flew.

This is what happens when the bean counters (accountants) are in charge.

Remote working really should be a gift for only the most disciplined and dedicated of employees. Otherwise people are lazy and sketchy and will not work nearly as hard. IBM is not wrong. Its still an asshole, but its not wrong.
