This has been posted over at Reddit several times over the last few years. Benny was at one point saying that he would become fluent in 3 months in Japanese. First of all, he failed to define what fluent meant in terms of his studies. Was he trying to learn all 2,000 Kanji in 3 months, speak fluently or be able to read a novel. All are different levels of fluency. Yet he failed to define that.
Second he made several vlog posts on his progress. He had some understandable progress during that time. However, when his month 3 video was due out, he had computer problems, an illness problem and that was it. No video for the last month. To me, it sounded like he promised too much and didn't deliver.
If you want to really learn Japanese, then work hard (of course) and use the tons of resources out there such as:
**
Wanikani (Kanji)
Anki (Vocab)
A book such as Genki I or Minna no Nihongo (Grammar and vocab)
Watch let's plays, animes, dramas or videos in Japanese. Start with English subs first, but then transition into full Japanese later.
Watch Learn Japanese videos on Youtube such as Nihongonomori :https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVx6RFaEAg46xfAsD2zz16w
Use an language exchange app such as Hello Talk.
Try to find someone in your local area for tutoring or check out iTalki.
Here is a list of languages that are ranked on time it will take to learn the language (http://www.effectivelanguagelearning.com/language-guide/language-difficulty). Japanese is stated as 88 weeks (2,200) hours of study needed. So if you study for 40 hours a week you will become fluent in roughly 1 year and 3 weeks (55 weeks).
You will come across a bunch of this none sense during your studies, so don't fall for this crap. If you managed to memories 2,000 kanji, it won't do you anything because you won't be able to speak, write, and even read. you will just be a walking dictionary. /rant
Right? I have trouble remembering one kanji a day...I don't think I'd ever be able to do 30. Too much studying can be bad. I think I'll stick to my one-a-day plan.
