Simple, just give the Mexican workers a temporary visa to pick the crops, but they must return to Mexico after the harvest. This was done in the past, but our crooked politicians let the Mexicans stay here after harvest. Thus starting the whole illegal problem.

Most of the pickers are seasonal visa holders.

I agree, most state ( including Calif/Oregon ) have made it a criminal act to hire illegals for years, so the question begs to be asked, what is the point of this NY-TIMES article? Is it to say that TRUMP will stop the flow of food to the table?

Or that TRUMP will kill the seasonal visa holder system? ( I seriously doubt as farm-ag-lobby is most powerful in CALIF )

Can we almost say, that this entire TRUMP debate about illegals is 100% bullshit?

The truth is there are millions of MEXICANS in LA, but they're 2nd generation, and they don't work, cuz they know its a waste of time; But unless the USA change its laws these Mexicans are USA citizens by the fact they were BORN here.

Is TRUMP circus act really an attack on Mexicans? Yet they're some of the hardest workers, (First GEN)

Problem is 2nd GEN ( LA, PHOENIX, .... ) don't want to return to Mexico, they're not mexicans; Lastly, its clear that by majority by 2050 all of South Western USA will be hispanic by majority, so what is even the point?

California Farmers Backed Trump, but Now Fear Losing Field Workers - The New York Times

'Trump’s immigration policies could transform California’s Central Valley, a stretch of lowlands that extends from Sacramento to Bakersfield. '

'MERCED, Calif. — Jeff Marchini and others in the Central Valley here bet their farms on the election of Donald J. Trump. '

'Approximately 70 percent of all farmworkers here are living in the United States illegally, according to researchers at University of California, Davis. '

'His message of reducing regulations and taxes appealed to this Republican stronghold, one of Mr. '

'Trump has signed executive orders that have upended the country’s immigration laws. '

This has been an automated message.

The estimated annual cost of illegal immigrants is $113 billion... perhaps some of those huge savings can go towards paying workers a few dollars extra?

It used to be common for students to pick fruit and veg during their break to earn some cash... and the sky didn't fall.

California has a huge homeless problem: perhaps they'd like to have a job?

Also, ignoring crime because of "fruit and veges" is retarded.

It was common for kids to pick strawberry's in 1970's that practice was banned some 30+ years ago, child labor laws, .... much to think about there, but honestly being in the strawberry biz, I can tell you most growers want the Mexicans, as they come in on time, get the work done, and stay until its done. The student by definition, can't work more than 8 hours a day, and certainly can't work from 5am->5am 24/7;

IMHO kids picking fruit is a lot like kids selling lemonade, its been gov banned for so long now that it ain't coming back.

Wow - these Mexican criminals sound awesome!

Makes me wonder why Mexico is such a shit hole and why awesome Mexicans don't Make Mexico Great Again?

Also, young adult college students picking fruit for cash is popular is just about every civilized country.

No - the sky won't fall because laws are enforced. You'll still get your yummy apples and the world will keep on spinning.

Plenty of inmates that could get out there until wages rise or machines take over.

A machine that doesn't bruise a strawberry has not yet been invented, and same for most fruit.

Problem is, and I have heard this from many a farmer, is that Mexicans work their ass off, they don't work by hour, they work by box, and a good Mexican will work 12-18 hours a day during harvest and maybe load +100 boxes of fruit/vegetables, the average white person ( I'm not going even bother discussing 3rd gen black welfare lardasses ), the avg white person does about 2-4 boxes and collapses from exhaustion. This is a fact. Most farmers on West Coast of USA will only hire Mexicans during harvest they don't have time to fuck with white people. Problem is most fruit vegetables has 1-2 days to be picked otherwise it rots, no time to fuck around, Mexicans come in and get the work done, and move on to next job. Whites come in late, bitch & moan, take off time for sick, and fail to show up second day of work.

Regarding use of criminals, that is NOT going to happen, the farmer doesn't want a busload of idiots coming in at 4am to his farm and needing to have their dicks held, and besides the guards are on a shift of 8 hours and want to bus the inmates back to the pen and go home, the farmer has to work 18 hours/day during harvest. No time to fuck with GOV PPL or their slaves.

It's too bad they hired people here illegally. In fact they're lucky if they don't get charged with aiding and abetting. They've done the country a great disservice. The market will normalize and wages will rise in those jobs. No one's to blame but those who dealt in illegalities.

Make the lazy welfare "Kings and Queens" do the work. No work; no welfare. Most of the wefare recipients won't sunburn!
