Extra $50 to drive around gun-wielding vigilantes as a compromise?

I'm not a huge fan of guns but to me when you put a blanket ban on guns in your place of business you're basically putting a sign up that says "Hey, I'm more likely than not defenseless!"

Either that or wooden baseball bats are about to see an increase in sales to Uber drivers.

That strategy works very well in Germany. Almost nobody has a gun at home. Guess what happens.

Burgler's don't bring a gun either, because there is no need. As a result, its rare that anybody is injured in a break in.

That hole "get armed and defend yourself" philosophy may sound intuitive, but in reality is not helpful to anybody (well, except to populist politicians who gain easy votes with some tough speeches).

That's way too simplified. In Germany, it is much harder for the criminal to get a gun in the first place. Rifles and shotguns are more difficult to conceal, not to mention the license needed. Handguns are only a thing in gun clubs, and you cannot take it home until you have some amount of seniority.

There is obviously a black market, but when, like you say, there is much less of a need, there is no reason to go to the trouble.

Shameful. The owners of Uber are no doubt so terrified of getting sued that they would rather put all their drivers and customers at risk.

The real kicker is, if one of their drivers decides to go on a rampage, they're already in a vehicle. They could drive it into someone or drive into a body of water with passengers.

Zero tolerance policies like this only empower criminals.

Looking more and more like employees and less like independent contractors... Uber will regret that when the lawsuits come.

I'm not sure if you can even prohibit an employee from carrying a gun in their car. You could prohibit the employee from carrying on your property, or in your property; but when the gun is never in/on the employer's property? I'd be interested to hear from any pizza drivers out there.
