I wasn't poking at the notion that pipelines are generally reliable when well-maintained... But the problem is that they "often" aren't well-maintained. Presumably.
Well, that is the problem there. They do seem to be more common than I remembered. The question winds up being if we are safer with the pipelines or with the oil being shipped by truck and train. Decent article below on that.
