You can't rely on them, you can only rely on cold storage or a permanent, immutable medium. They provide the illusion of security, all it would take is someone with malicious intent and technical know how to take them down.

If you use linux, learn about downloading archives for mirroring. I'm sure windows has equivalent tools as well.
