What I hate the most are the excuses - as if it isn't an issue of eating too much.
You can "white-knuckle your way past the pastry tray and not eat something — but the strategy doesn't work in the long term."
Uh, yes. Fitness is an issue of determination, hard work, and will power. It is a lifestyle of self discipline.
"They're actively trying to debunk the commonly held idea that people with excess weight are undisciplined or lazy."
Hilarious.

Whence cometh the Japanese obesity rate if discipline has nothing to do with it? In that instance, there's a population with low metabolism, office jobs and vending machines. Are they thinner than planets like your average Cook Islander because of magic genetics?

No matter your metabolism, if you burn more calories than you consume you'll lose weight.

Fat-enabling bullshit. If you're hungry on a diet, u're on the wrong diet. Besides let's be real, everyone is on a diet, everyone. Diet is just what we eat on a daily basis, it's a way of life, it's how you eat, it's what you eat, and if you permanently change that your body will change. If you're only eating healthy because you're on a diet, of course you'll fail when you go off the diet, that's just code for going back to the same crap u started with.

I don't understand why the resting metabolism change would be permanent.
Even if it is true, people complain about a lower metabolism like it's a bad thing. Everywhere else we show off efficiency with pride, Hybrids, LED lights, etc, but with metabolism somehow it's bad.

If you call saying no to the pastry tray often enough to maintain human shape a struggle, a true test of willpower, and something that depletes your "willpower reserves," you're a failure. You have to eat a shitload of pastries to get to the size these things do. Not having the willpower to prevent that is pathetic.

But when you diet, your body becomes more fuel efficient, burning fewer calories to accomplish those same tasks. It goes from being a Hummer to being a Honda Civic, in terms of fuel consumption. And that fuel efficiency can be permanent.
Fucking duh? If you go from a 300-pound landwhale to a 130-pound human, of course you are going to need fewer calories to maintain a lower mass. Fat isn't an inactive tissue; it needs a blood supply and secretes hormones. All that requires energy in the form of calories. So of course once you get rid of all the extra fat, your body doesn't need that energy anymore... so your BMR goes down.

'And if you manage to lose weight, it fights — fiercely — to get you to put those pounds back on. '
