I still can't fathom the idea of spending $700 on a phone which won't let me stick in a 256 GB MicroSD card, and which will also be abandoned in about three years from now by the vendor, meaning no more OS updates.

I write this post on a first-gen Core I5 laptop, which I acquired at a thrift shop for $60 a couple weeks ago. Its more than half a decade old, and with the 8GB of memory that I installed and the SSD, it will continue to perform admirably AND GET UPDATES for years to come.

These phones just aren't a value proposition, especially when the price is so high, the support life cycle is so short, and they lack critical features like expansion slots and batteries which are easy to change, while phones that cost literally a fourth the price proudly offer expansion slots and batteries that are easy to change.

TLDR: If you handed me $700, I would not buy one of these. If you handed me $7,000,000, I would still not buy one of these.

Google loses Android friends with Pixel exclusivity • The Register

' But perhaps Google cares as much about antitrust as much as it cares about Android OEMs? ®'

'Google introduced a new virtual assistant that no other Android OEM could obtain: giving Google an exclusivity period of a few months. '

'Google’s decision to keep premium Android features for itself attracted surprisingly little comment last year - but the dangers are heaving into view. '

'As Charles Arthur points out:“Maybe Google shouldn’t be surprised that Android handset-makers are looking to Amazon when Google keeps the best new features exclusive to its own Pixel phones. '

'Phone OEMs were never happy with Google making Google-brand Nexus phones in 2010. '

This has been an automated message.

Edison Research analyst Richard Windsor believes Pixel is just a first stepon a path that will see Google seize total control of the nominally “free and open” Android - possibly even moving to the entire OS into the proprietary GMS (Google Mobile Services) binary layer.

Fuck samsung, who made android, who open sourced it? Google did. Who deciided to put shit tons of bloatware and bullshit on androids phones? Every fucking phone that uses android almost.

If i can buy a phone without all that bullshit. I will. I dont give a shit if its google, they already own you, your own government spies on you and murders the world in your name. I dont feel shit for buying a google phone.

Google should close source and let samsung and htc write thier own god damn OS.

I bought a brand fucking new htc bolt from sprint for 600$ yeah it had an sd slot, it also came with shit tons of apps that couldnt be removed and ads. Ads in the voicemail app, wanting to get GPS in the voicemail app to show ads.

The reason people might want a pixel is one, google fi is the fucking future. Being able to hit almost every major carrier tower means better coverage. And another reason is people are fucking tired of these assholes who put bloatware and other shit you cant remove.
