Of course, sometimes people have unpopularly insightful comments to make.

No matter the anger or WTF that a comment creates within me I do not down voat. I simply do not up voat except for comments/submissions that I feel are worth of some consideration no matter how unpopular. I admit that there are times I have been tempted. And I feel that some of my comments and submissions may have been brigaded but that's life on the internet. Bullies and hate seem to go hand-in-hand.

Fair enough. I guess that's a honorable route to walk. But I don't view voating as good or bad, just a tool.

What about in a scenario, where you see a virgin 0 shill comment, that you know could mislead someone, cause infighting, or hijack a discussion? Would you not want to protect the community then?

I view all virgin 0 comments as fair game for public consideration, but something that has downvoats makes me more critical of the content, hence the use when necessary.

I learned to reconfigure my preferences to see downvoted comments on Digg and Reddit a long time ago. If I look at comments and its something controversial I always do this.

Ooo. How did you go about that?

On reddit look for the word preferences in bold face on the upper right hand side:

I haven't been on digg for years now, but there was a similar option there too.

I read every comment in a thread. I disagree it is being "silenced". The comment is still there for all to read. If someone is too lazy to click and read it that's their fault.

Yes. It's a habit learned on r-eddit
