In contrast, Trump praised Britons for voting last year to leave the EU. People and countries want their own identity and don't want outsiders to come in and "Destroy it." The U.K. is smart to leave the bloc because the EU "Is basically a means to an end for Germany," Bild cited Trump as saying.
Holy Fuck, THE MADMAN!!!!!

This is an over simplistic understanding of foreign relations.
The United States of America has the strongest armed forces that have ever existed--that is for a reason.
That reason is not because we have more enemies than any country that has ever been, but because the US treats its armed forces like an export; something that can be leveraged in negotiations.
By threatening to withdraw support, President Trump gives the other nations incentive to build up their armed forces and reduce their long-term dependence on the US for military aid.
In the short term, America will save a few dollars. In the long term, America will lose its leverage.

there might be something to the notion that we have more enemies than anyone else

So you are arguing for an increased military industrial complex, all around the world?

Who the fuck cares about Europe, we have Russia on our side.
At the end of the day, Europeans will be our little bitch.

On issue after issue, we cannot rely on a rule-book written for a different century.
So the constitution is out, but NATO is untouchable. I realize they don't explicitly say that NATO is necessary but that is the implication.
Also, the title of this article:
Trump Slams NATO, Floats Russia Nuke Deal in European Interview
But if you read the article the "nuke deal" is:
an interest in lifting U.S. sanctions on Russia as part of a nuclear weapons reduction deal.
The headline would have you believe the US and Russia are trading nuclear warheads when it is in fact a non-proliferation agreement. Bullshit propaganda.

Trump doesn't understand trade. We may pay a heavy price for his ignorance.
[–] lostnewbie 2 points -2 points 0 points (+0|-2) ago
what are Trump's international trade credentials? I haven't heard anything beyond the fact at he is against our current trade agreements. I agree with that sentiment, I just don't believe that the Donald is actually on the same page as me there. I'd love to see some links to some evidence that he is actually against modern 'free' trade. I have seen a 'Make America Great Again' hat that has the Made in China tag on it so i'm obviously a bit skeptical

He thinks that for a Mexican to gain a job, an American must lose one. Any economist will tell you it doesn't work that way. But that's fine; continue reasoning with your id, just like The Donald.

So it seems everyone here considers NATO outdated as well, my reserve is that General Mattis stated
The retired Marine Corps general, according to a Politico report, labeled NATO so central to the U.S.’s defensive posture that, if it did not today exist it would need to be built.
I'm inclined to believe Mattis is more aware of geopolitics and more knowledgeable on military capabilities as well.

That doesn't mean it's current state isn't obsolete.
[–] novictim 0 points 6 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago
If NATO remains obsessed after the Cold War with "Soviet"Russian imperial ambitions then, yes, it is obsolete. If it turns its attention to defending the Free World from Islam and secondarily, Chinese aggression, then it will find a legitimate reason to exist.
I am not saying that NATO should not have a ready defense against a Russian aggression. But NATO has a more pressing concern with a 3million strong Islamic invasion force occupying Europe under its very nose.

NATO hasn't done fuck with China who is aggressively expanding its territorial claims.
