Yep. I recently waited through a 40GB Bioshock Inifinite download to play through the DLC. This year at least, I got some better internet in my area, it went from 3MB/s to 6MB/s with no extra cost to me. It still feels like my bandwidth only doubled, while game sizes quadrupled.

started playing Alien instead. Said it was 22GB but then it was only 15GB.
Got stuck fairly early so I've quit for now. Too late for all this tension anyway.
Loved the graphics.

Downloads from Steam can be compressed. That's why download for Alien was only 15GB. It likely decompressed afterwards to 22GB. It's up to the publisher to take advantage of that feature so not all games do :(

That's actually kinda' small compared to where things are heading now

most ps4 and xbone games are at-least 40gb and not counting the 2gb update it makes you do before you can play it,

Crazy huh? I downloaded a ton of old abandonware games the other day, some of them in the hundreds of kilobytes. Files for some of the manuals were larger.

Large textures are part of it. Uncompressed audio also seems to be (somewhat) common these days. HD pre-rendered cut-scenes are probably the biggest problem.

Oh yeah, I forgot about video cutscenes. That's a massive chunk of some games.

There's no excuse for uncompressed audio though. It barely takes any CPU to decompress.

Yup. I just finished a 50GB download for Just Cause 3 multiplayer.

It's not a bad thing though. Having those huge textures and higher bitrate audio is better than having compressed versions of them.

They should let you download a lower quality version of the game.

Maybe. That's alot of extra time, development resources and potential for bugs though.
