The ones I had witnessed at LSU and Tulane consisted of a barrier system like they have at busy dmvs or cinemas, literally post with retractable vinyl(?) Bands. I always thought it so funny the very same tards that think it racist to barrier free entry to the country will literally go into a full blown tranq dart emergency rage, well, liberal rage, at the very misperception that and outsider, (sane person) would attempt ingress to the sanctuary of "higher minds". Our blantent, usually white skin caused, ignorance is killing the....everything, were killing everything. Stand to close to the towering defense of sacred safe space and you will be told about "your" white privilege, 9 outta 10 x's, by a liberal who has to refocus thier smugg in the domain of douchery, and is also, white. There is a surprising number of people sitting fetal, and rocking back and forth. Which is actually a bad sign in any event, synonimous with stress induced "episodes"
A safe space is nothing more than a place (could be real or on the internet etc.) where nobody challenges your views of the world.
Example: Anyone who uses "triggered" unironically is really just saying "I'm too weak/stupid to defend my own view and I want a safe space". So they spend most of their time on tumblr, a notorious safe space for crybabies and degenerates alike.

Usually at colleges there are reserved spaces for minorities, whether it be race, gender, or sexuality. At least those are the identities I know of. Sometimes, universities don't have enough space so they force the minorities to share the space, designating it for different days. It's essentially a room for group therapy sessions, discussions, and bringing up weird microaggressions during each session. The rules usually just follow letting people speak, not being "mean," and generally not being oppressive by invalidating anyone's experience. They also introduce pronouns, which I never remember. Sometimes these spaces are used to organize protests, events, or otherwise "awareness" oriented activities. I hated being called person of color, it stung like a slur. After being tokenized as a gay PoC, I left and never went back.

The basic idea is that a space is autonomous - ran by people from marginalised group, exclusively for people of marginalised group.
