Can't put that genie back in the bottle, faggots. Fake News is ours now. You will die a slow, painful death.

Exactly.

"We lost control of it. So nobody gets to have it."

They aren't admitting defeat, they're moving the goal posts again because it's being used against them.

“The speed with which the term became polarized and in fact a rhetorical weapon illustrates how efficient the conservative media machine has become,” said George Washington University professor Nikki Usher.

The reporter then goes on to say: "So, here’s a modest proposal for the truth-based community."
Truth-based community...

I don't know what this is called in English, but: She is not even making the claim they are truth-based, she is casually mentioning it as if it were a universal truth.

I came here to say just the same thing. They aren't being apologetic, they're spinning a narrative.

Who knew that not researching claims of Russian propaganda and electrical grid hacking would backfire on your newspaper? They're only a nuclear power what is the worst that could happen?

You're fucking kidding me? So after having their collective pants pulled down over the election and coining "fake news" to maintain hegemony over the mainstream narrative, they're fucking throwing the toy out of the pram because it can be used against them as well as by them???

"Let’s get out the hook and pull that baby off stage. Yes: Simply stop using it."

Here's another idea for the mainstream media since their slow-motion "fake news" train crash just completely derailed: BE A BIT MORE FUCKING HONEST, UNBIASED AND FACT-BASED IN YOUR REPORTING. An impossibility, I know, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

There was a time when journalism was a respected institution, when journalists and reporters worked for the public interest, they exposed the kind of bullshit that we now rely on the likes of Wikileaks for instead of covering it up, colluding and spinning bullshit narratives.

And they fucking wonder why alternative media has taken off so much in recent months?

They're not retiring it, they're just trying to regain their whole stance of "Pizzagate is fake, don't trust Alex Jones or Breitbart, we're the only real news sources" narrative while trying to stop the use of the "fake news" narrative by the "new mainstream media" that are all these online sites, YouTube channels, podcasts, and talk radio shows.

"Conservative media machine" is really just regular people who have woken up to how utterly shit the mainstream media is. It wasn't Breitbart and Alex Jones who turned the term back on them. It was people.

All I will ever see when I read 'Washington Post' now is "Pro-Trump narratives coverage in horrible attack streamed on facebook"

-> Mainstream Media tries to smear alternative news sources that conflict with the narrative as "Fake news"

-> Everyone starts calling Mainstream Media "Fake News"

-> Oy vey Oh Shit those fucking white males evil right wing conspiracy theorists are using that phrase now? Shut it down! It's time to retire the tainted term 'Fake News'!
