"Fake News" was always a pretty ironic arrow to sling by the MSM. They've been overrun in popularity by click-bait shit-teir news, granted, but their assertion that it was all politically motivated counter-propaganda (and that was the only valid use of the term 'fake news') was only bought by them to sell the term as a meme.
Problem was, no one ever thought that but them. "Fake News" was what they already were, and "Faker News" was just a result of their own abdication of responsibility to tell the truth. "Conservative Counter Propaganda" was the term they meant to use, but its clearly not as meme'able since its a specific and definable idea that only they believe in.
I think it'd have gotten about as many laughs as "Fake News" did. They just be less ironic, more pitiful sympathetic laughs at the newspaper salesman falling down a flight of stairs.
Still just passed laws allowing gov to go after whatever they deem as fake, probably just because it's true and embarrassing.

When Jim DeMint wanted to dis a TV interviewer’s suggestion ...
When conspiracy theorist Alex Jones wanted to deny a CNN report...
And when a writer for an arch-conservative website needed a putdown...
They left out "And when we published a completely inaccurate story about Russians hacking the power grid". Nothing was true about their original story.
