I don't know if I believe the holocaust didn't happen, but it does appear that certain figures were inaccurate to say the least.

Voat is a right wing echo chamber tinged with bitterness and hate. If this and sites like it are the main source of your information you are getting dumber. I'm not saying Voat isn't useful, I'm saying it can't be your primary source.

It's left me better informed than most of my cohorts, so I don't really follow. Voat is a website, it doesn't make you hate black people or jews, the people who hate them already did. It did make me look into violent crime statistics and put a more watchful eye on Europe, however. Honestly, voat has been an education for me because I'm no longer blinded by the "feel good" glaze of liberalism.

It does if you lack critical thinking skills or, like most people, are susceptible to confirmation bias.

Although I have spend years learning how to talk to dumb people to avoid this issue.
Says the idiot who believes the earth is flat!
Edit
Either smok has more alts to downvote this or some people don't know just how retarded he is.

You're saying your cup runneth over with intelligent, well rounded people? What magical fairy land do you hail from, stranger? Where I am, you can't through a rock without hitting a dozen idiots.

So appreciate that you brought this up. I've been feeling airless for quite a while now, friends I've had for twenty years suddenly slid off the plate in the past couple of years. They get so offended (whoops, there's that word) when I have a different information set than they do... I grant you, I probably spend a whole lot more time here and elsewhere on the net, I guess that's it. But it's kind of lonely. They're friends, and I can't talk to them about this, or that, or the other thing. Shit.

I completely understand the feeling, I've been feeling pretty despondent and alone myself. I'm finding that most people disappoint me, either in terms of their actions or in terms of their ability to entertain a semi complex conversation. Being informed is a positive thing, even if most people today would disagree with that premise. The worst thing is that blank stare, that universal blank stare that glazes over the face of anyone when I talk to them about real stuff. I don't personally like small talk, and it seems that's all people can do anymore after being repeatedly brown beaten to not talk about politics (or other important shit) in public.
It can't be just a coincidence that people have gotten more sensitive and less intelligent (hell, less self aware), right? There's no way this is just in my head. I guess it could just be we outgrew them, but that's honestly more depressing.
Ha, I found another George quote while looking up the previous one. “The reason I talk to myself is because I’m the only one whose answers I accept.”
I have a friend who wants to find out George's birthday, and throw him a party even if he's gone now, and get a few of us together and we can all tell George Carlin stories. What will history make of George Carlin, I wonder? Will he be the Lao Tzu for the next millenium?
You remind me of that remark attributed to George Carlin, “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”
Although the people who have ... well, baffled more than disappointed me, are anything but stupid. I guess I'm looking at the effectiveness of social engineering, when otherwise sane people suddenly develop concentric circles for eyes, and can't believe I'm on the opposite side of their take on something- politics mainly, but sometimes sociology, materiality, spirituality, especially conspiracy, and more I'm sure.
It's just baffling that good friends can suddenly derail like this. Never used to happen; but I'm forced to wonder if I've changed, and not them.
For the record, I do still have a very few with whom I can actually converse, now and then. Got to watch our timing, though. Cheers to a fellow Voat-goat!

I'll take some of those non idiots if you have any to spare, what's the exchange rate? Jokes aside, I can't seem to find any and I'm finding the idiots drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Calling them dumb isn't exactly accurate, because there's something else that makes them emotionally draining to be around. Honestly, I just need new friends because the ones I'm around just depress me.

It's honestly a mix. I can't talk to people about politics without being accused of racism, buying into fake news, or being generally dumb: I can't talk to people about burgeoning experimental psychotropic treatments because they call me a druggie, I can't talk economics without being called a heartless capitalist, and I can't talk about Islam without being called a bigot.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKK
Honestly, I can't talk about anything to anyone really.

I have been in your place a long time. I have found a few that I can share my thoughts with, but most people I just talk about the weather, the kids, and that jerk manager. I often entertain myself with watching how the mainstream propaganda affects the unaware. I will listen to what NPR is pushing since they have a tendency to lead the narrative, then observe as it propagates through the MSM and I see the mantra recited by the zombie horde. It is very sad in a way to watch, but I have always been fascinated by brain washing techniques and cult manipulation practices.
