I think its just pure damn curiosity, from day to day in your shitty life, or better life; You got to ask, if you died today, What would you miss out on tomorrow?

That is the essential thinking man's dilemma. A fool might think its all down-hill, a moron might things will get better.

But in general, its just dumb curiosity that keeps primates alive and foraging food for the next day, as we age, life gets more & more monotonous for most primates.

Once permanent non-recoverable disease set's in, most do off, to avoid pain and/or the certainty of knowing what's coming.

A person sitting in a cell on a life +500 year sentence, now you got to ask, what's he/she got to look forward too?

The famous mathematicians used to say that learning math is what kept them alive in their teenage years, just the desire to learn. When people get older and more powerful and more money, if inclined they become addicted to more power & money, that keeps many alive.

Quite the majority are just bored.

Emerson & Thoreau long ago said "Most men lives boring repetitive lives, of quiet desperation"

If the pain of living exceeds your fear of dying, then it's not hard.

Still though... Seems like if you get to that point, you may as well go for a walk around the world before you go. See what there is to see. Sure, maybe you will die of exposure, crime, or starvation but that's the same outcome you were looking for anyway. If you survive, you can always end it later.

If life wasn't worth living. It should be up to each individual to decide what that looks like.

If I were permanently maimed, death might be an option.
