Barely... About as faint a memory as the willingness to leave the house in any city.

The successive waves of "heads", from crack to meth to wtfe kinda inhibit quality city life for all but the wealthy & rich.

Bill Clinton was the death blow to anything traditional. I hope Trump kills him

Does anyone remember all the stors closeing in the early 90s? Remember they would just shrink the store closer and closer to the entrance as the sold out of inventory. A week before they would close it was one register with like 6 shelves around it with the empty store behind it.

No. Chain stores have existed since the first Walgreen's Drug Store decided to expand. There's always been chains in every city, especially in the cities. Maybe during the 1700's they were different.

I'm not saying chains didn't exist, but there were fewer of them and they didn't dominate.

Yes. I traveled the country and it was really sad how many fucking box marts there were. I stand against developers for this reason- also because the jobs in those marts suck.

And the profits, the most important money, leave the local economy. Growth will happen elsewhere.

Growth in the pockets of the 1% of ownership class. The rest see their share of the pie shrink.
