I hate the hate for "brigading". If there's something funny, cool, interesting, whatever on voat, why not let people link too it and comment and voat? This was something I loved about reddit until they went apeshit about it. I found a ton of great content and new subs this way. I'd hate to see this go the way of reddit due to a single group of assholes. I'm sure there's other ways of dealing with them.

What if you blocked a verse and that verse not only because invisible to you, but you became invisible to it (and maybe its subscribers too)? This isn't perfect by any means but it would demotivate hate groups from forming up just to downvoat people. For them to have any sort of efficiency they'd have to all unsubscribe from their verse, then start another, then try again. That's a lot for a lot of users to keep up with and isn't worth it. Sure they could organize elsewhere, but then I'd say ban them. That's not censorship, that's stopping a 3rd party attack.

If we want a truly free speech system here, we're going to have to put up with assholes trying to rain on everyone's parade.

Perhaps something can be done to mitigate it without censorship, but I can't think of a practical solution.

/v/shitvoatsays isn't a brigade subverse and was created with the explicit reason to take away the name for any brigade that would form on Voat – it's a Best of Voat instead.

There were attempts at actual brigade subverses, but all of them I've seen were unsuccessful due to inactivity and voting restrictions before the huge influx.

If the "current users"/"subscribers" count has been fixed since the recent server migration, then that still only has 200 people. That is a fairly small amount of people, and in the case of anyone trying to brigade, Voat lets you block individual users as easily as it lets you block subreddits.

when you don't like a subverse you can always unsubscribe and block it

He's more worried about those times when an unpleasant subverse focuses its attention on one of the subverses he is subscribed to, and those users spam comments where they're not welcome.

That won't stop people from coming over to the verses you do visit.

Question is, do you want to censor others to prevent being censored?

Stop? Like ban? Cause I am against that. We have to be the better people here. As stupid and foolhardy that is, we shouldn't stoop to that level.

But letting them have any say in how the site works? I agree, we have seen what happens when those people get a say in how sites are run.

its important in situations like these to take the high road, as in not banning them. They are cancerous to communities, but they will be drowned out by downvoats. or upvoats if people agree. thats simply free speech.

I agree! Once one subverse gets banned it will lead to more getting banned!
